Why Alligators Eat Meat (A Folktale)

Once alligators didn't eat meat. They ate plants.
But, that all changed when one day a lizard walked by and teased the gators and thought it was funny.

The gators stared at the lizard angrily. The lizard took a little giggle.

One gator said, "We've never eaten meat before. Why don't we eat it now?"

One gator guarded the lizard while the others got ready for the big chase. When they all were ready, they ran after the lizard. The lizard ran for his life as fast as he could on his little four legs.
The lizard had a plan. When he saw a big boulder, he stood in front of the boulder and whistled and said, "Hey, guys! Over here! Come chase me!"

The gators ran at the lizard and all of them bumped their heads. The lizard ran and went into the jungle.

He set up a trap made of rope for the gators. The gators ran and when one of them was standing on the trap, the lizard pulled the rope and the gator got trapped.

The lizard hid himself and he was nowhere to be seen.

A gator said, "Oh, well! It looks like we won't be getting any lunch today. Let's go eat plants."

From that day forward, alligators intend to eat meat.

The End.
